On the 4th Sunday After Easter, Bishop FILARET Served the Divine Liturgy at Căpriana Monastery
The 4th Sunday after Easter, also called the Sunday of the Paralytic, was a time of spiritual joy both for the monastic community of Căpriana Monastery and for the multitude of faithful who gathered to offer prayers to the God within this holy place. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace FILARET, Bishop of Căpriana.
Today’s Sunday reminds us of the miraculous healing of a man who had been paralyzed for 38 years, as recounted in the Gospel of John (chapter 5, verses 1-15). Jesus Christ asks the sick man, “Do you want to be healed?” highlighting the importance of personal will and faith in receiving healing. The miracle takes place at the Pool of Bethesda, where many sick people waited for the stirring of the waters to be healed. Christ heals him by His word alone, without physical touch, demonstrating that His power is divine. This Sunday teaches us that Christ is the Doctor of souls and bodies, and that drawing near to Him brings healing and salvation.
